Freedom

from want, freedom from fear.

Isaia is a life-long Madisonian, grandchild of immigrants & public policy professional running for Assembly to better the 76th district.

Isaia believes in…
  • Every Wisconsinite deserves the freedom to live in dignified housing, and no one in Wisconsin should fear rising housing costs. That means expanding the Homestead Tax Credit, incentivizing municipalities to develop new housing, and empowering local officials to consider affordability in their approvals.

  • Every Wisconsinite should have the freedom to enjoy every corner of our state. Building public transit that goes beyond city and county limits will alleviate housing costs and promote more sustainable forms of transportation. We need to create regional transit authorities, invest in #UnionBuilt projects, and invest in Complete Streets.

  • Every family deserves the freedom to receive healthcare without fear of financial strain. From expanding Badgercare and extending coverage to postpartum mothers, to covering preventative screenings for breast cancer and lowering prescription drug costs, we can make healthcare accessible to everyone.

  • Wisconsin should be a place where every resident has the freedom to continue their academic career without enduring the ramifications of partisan attacks on higher education. The limitations of our public universities are the limitations of our state: we need to heavily invest in the Universities of Wisconsin and support growth that does not rely on private interests.

  • Every child deserves to learn and succeed in our public education system. Public schools must be fully funded and staffed by quality professionals who are provided the wages and dignity they deserve. Republican austerity has stolen millions of dollars from the public school system and funneled them into unaccountable private school voucher programs. This has raised property taxes, harmed the quality of education in our state, and hurt our teacher workforce. Wisconsin needs to reinstate collective bargaining for teachers, put an end to the separate private voucher system, and invest in every student across Wisconsin.

Freedom from Want

  • The Trump Administration’s attack on immigrant communities is an attack on the fabric of America. As a state, we must protect the rights and freedoms of our immigrant neighbors and support modernizing our immigration process. This means standing up to ICE, guaranteeing due process, and fighting unconstitutional practices that tear families apart and undermine public safety.

  • Members of the LGBTQ+ community deserve the freedom to live in community, no matter their identity. We need to prohibit discrimination based on gender presentation or identity, support our trans neighbors in fully living their lives in safety and with dignity, and reject any measure that will keep LGBTQ+ individuals from fully participating in our shared society.

  • In order to ensure every person is able to live in Wisconsin without fear, we must ensure that every tenant is protected. Here in Wisconsin, the rights of tenants have consistently taken a back seat to the interests of landlords. We must pass a tenants bill of rights that enshrines the right to representation in eviction proceedings and the right to habitable living conditions.

  • Every person in Wisconsin deserves the freedom to access quality and affordable reproductive care. After the disastrous decision to overturn Roe v Wade, it is vital that our state government supports a person’s right to make their own healthcare decisions by guaranteeing the right to an abortion in our state constitution and mandating the coverage of abortion services under all insurance plans in our state, including and especially Badgercare.

  • For years, the Republican majority has attacked workers rights, kept wages low, and created an economy that benefits the wealthy few. Wisconsinites deserve to live free from the fear of poverty wages and dangerous working conditions. We must repeal Act 10 and constitutionally protect the rights of working Wisconsinites to negotiate for better workplaces.

About Isaia

“Hello, I am Isaia Ben - Ami. I spent my formative years right here on the East side, where I was taught the value of collective action against unjust systems. Fourteen years ago, I was proud to join my public school teachers in protest against Act 10, and today I work in Assembly Democratic Leadership, where I help craft policy to move Wisconsin forward for working families.

This is the community that welcomed my grandparents and gave us the opportunity to succeed. Now I am fighting to protect those opportunities for others, and build a Wisconsin that works for everyone.”
